Omega 3 EPA
Omega-3 EPA and DHA are naturally occurring essential fatty acids commonly found in cold-water fish and shellfish, due to their consumption of microalgae. The fatty acid is primarily found in fish such as salmon, tuna, halibut, other seafood including algae and krill, and certain plants. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are two converted types of Omega-3 essential fats.
Omega-3 EPA is required for medical use and the special treatment of patients with arteriosclerosis and various heart diseases. The Omega-3 fatty acids used for this purpose are isolated from fish oil in an extremely complicated and expensive process.
The purest form of Omega-3 EPA is included in Marigan’s product portfolio and is extracted from the microalgae Phaeodactilum tricornutum, which is cultivated in high-tech plants to serve the demand of our industrial clients.
Cultivation
Apart from its natural occurrence in marine organisms and various plants, Omega-3 fatty acids can be extracted from fish oil and commercially produced by cultivating microalgae. Omega-3 extracted from fish oil is often of low-quality and polluted with heavy metals and toxic agents. Microalgae are the preferred producers of Omega-3 EPA as they naturally grow faster under a variety of conditions, with the strain phaeodactilum tricornutum accumulating the highest levels of natural Omega-3 EPA. Extracting the Omega-3 from microalgae offers clients a highly concentrated, pure agent. Marigan will specialize in the high-tech commercial cultivation of phaeodactilum tricornutum in order to produce the purest qualities of Omega-3 EPA.
